Meet the Team

We are perfectly located in the White Peak area of Derbyshire close to Matlock. Our activities utilise the natural environments within the Peak District National Park. The Lake District. The Yorkshire Dales and the Snowdonia in North Wales.

Daryl Godfrey

Pro-Venture is presently being project managed by Daryl Godfrey. Daryl is a qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor, International and Winter Mountain Leader and holds the Caving Instructors Certificate.

Daryl has delivered accredited leadership courses since 1997. He is an approved course provider & course director for the national governing bodies (Mountain Training and British Caving Association). His professional credibility (above), is strongly underpinned by a wealth of personal experience which include; a significant number of classic big wall climbing ascents and various mountaineering expeditions to the greater ranges. Daryl has also organised and led numerous overseas expedition caving trips.

James Blake

James Blake is a Director at Pro-Venture, he is a qualified and experienced Cave Leader, Climbing Instructor and Mountain Bike Leader.

James has delivered outdoor experiences, training and leadership programmes since 2001 and has worked to underpin his training and coaching knowledge by additionally holding a Chartered Institute for Personal Development (CIPD) qualification.

He is passionate about the outdoors and adventure having climbed extensively in the UK and overseas.

Nigel Berry

Nige as a Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor has many years experience coaching on the crags and mountains, both summer and winter. He has a passion for teaching lead climbing, improvised rescue techniques, and preparing others to have their own adventures.

Nige is very active caver and qualified to lead in horizontal and vertical cave systems. He has a leading role in the local Mountain Rescue  team and is happy to share thirty years of personal and professional experiences, with the aim of inspiring your future adventures.

Chris Plant

Chris has an Honours Degree in Education with QTS and an Advanced Diploma in Special Educational needs. Chris has had a broad career experience working in a diverse range of schools from  North Nottinghamshire, the Swiss International School in Aiglon to Gordonstoun School in Scotland, the birthplace of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Chris currently holds both the Summer and Winter Mountain leader Awards the Rock Climbing Instructor and the Alpine Ski Leader qualifications. He is presently progressing through the Mountaineering  and Climbing Instructor qualification – formerly known as the M.I.A.

Chris has been climbing for over 40 years.  Throughout his mountaineering career he has explored the mountains of the UK, the High Alps of Europe, the Sierra Nevada in California and the Cascade Mountains in Washington State. Chris’ has led expeditions to the Bolivian Andes, the Arctic and Russia and undertaken school charity projects to Rwanda,

Dan Hoyle

Dan holds a first class Honours Degree in Outdoor Activity Leadership and Coaching the degree work has supported his progress through the Rock Climbing Instructor and Development Coaching awards. Additionally Dan is qualified as a caver and a lowland walking leader.

Since leaving university he has been coaching members of the GB Para climbing Team and local youth squads.

Personally, Dan has climbed and caved extensively throughout the UK and Europe.

Sam Mitchell

Sam is a gifted, highly efficient organiser who brings a creative panache to our team building courses.
 Sam progresses many of our courses from the initial enquiry through planning to delivery.
 Sam is currently progressing through the Cave Instructors Certificate (C.I.C) scheme.

Personal Mountaineering & Caving Experience: Experience has been obtained in America, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Canada, Corsica, Mallorca, Sardinia and Switzerland.

Phil Parkin

Phil attended Derby University where he gained a degree in Geology. His Geology background compliments his skills as a Cave Leader and Rock Climbing Instructor. Phil has been working in the Peak District National Park since 2010, and is probably one of the most relaxed people you’ll meet!

Cool, calm and collected, Phil is the guy you want to rely on when the pace starts stiffening. With climbing experience worldwide. Developing crags in Laos- South East Asia, France, Spain and areas up and down Britain.

Phil has explored some highly committing cave venues from the Yorkshire Dales, the deep slate mines of North Wales to jaw dropping mountain caverns of Cantabria in Northern Spain.
